About Purifier Buyer's Guide
We're a small team of air quality researchers and consumer advocates who got tired of reading reviews written by people who'd never actually run a purifier for more than an afternoon. So we built the publication we wished existed.
Our Mission
The air purifier market is full of inflated claims, misleading specs, and reviews that are little more than reworded press releases. Millions of people buy purifiers every year hoping to improve their health — and too many end up with an underpowered unit, a model with ruinously expensive filters, or a machine that's too loud to run while they sleep.
Purifier Buyer's Guide exists to fix that. Our mission is simple: give every reader the information they need to buy the right air purifier for their home, at a price that makes sense for their budget.
We do that through long-form, data-backed reviews that test what actually matters — real-world filtration performance, noise at every fan speed, true running costs over 12 months, and honest assessments of smart features that are genuinely useful versus those that are just marketing.
We never accept free products from manufacturers. We never let affiliate relationships influence our scores. If a product underperforms, we say so — regardless of who makes it.
How We Test
Our testing protocol is designed to produce results that reflect real-world home use — not ideal lab conditions engineered to make a product look good.
Real-World Testing
Every purifier we review is purchased at retail price and tested in a controlled environment — a sealed 400 sq ft room with consistent baseline air quality. We run each unit for a minimum of 72 hours across all fan speeds before scoring.
Verified CADR Measurements
We cross-reference manufacturer CADR claims against AHAM-certified data and our own particle counter readings. If a brand's numbers don't hold up in our tests, we report what we actually measured — not what the box says.
Long-Term Filter Tracking
We track filter replacement costs over a 12-month period, including shipping. A purifier that looks affordable upfront can cost twice as much to run — we surface that in every review so you can compare true total cost of ownership.
Independent Scoring
Our ratings are determined by a weighted rubric covering filtration performance (35%), noise (20%), coverage (20%), running costs (15%), and smart features (10%). No brand can pay to influence a score — period.
